ISPaes1 is 62% aa similar to IS427.
The third ORF is a putative ORFAB transposase reconstructed in silico by a possible -1 frameshift.
ISPaes1 has been identified by its transposition into entrapment vector pMEC1 (cI-tetA ceassette). ISPaes1 contains two sequences, 5’-aCTGGTGc-3’ (position 206, 2 mismatches) and 5’-tCTGGTGa-3’ (position 540, 2 mismatches), similar to the Chi sites, which specify the place of action for RecBCD nuclease. At position 400, ISPaes1 contains the sequence 5'-AAAAG-3' that might function as a -1 translational frameshifting site. As judged from DNA hybridization analysis ISPaes1 is present in 6 copies in the genome of P. aestuarii DSM 19484.
