Introduction of the IncP plasmid RP4 into Rhizobium lupini generated a structural instability of this plasmid. Analysis of the RP4 derivatives in Escherichia coli showed that they correlated with the insertion of ISR1 into RP4. (Priefer et al., 1980). The original ISR1 sequence has been corrected: deletion of nucleotides 461 (G) and 664 (C) and addition of T following nucleotide 916 (Prère et al., 1990).
